London - the first afternoon

It was just over an hours train journey to London Maryleborn station and then I checked into the Reform Club, reciprocal with the Union Club in Victoria. It is at 104 Pall Mall, right in the middle of London and next door to the Travellers Club where I had stayed before.

In the afternoon I found that I had purchased a train ticket which enabled all day travel on the Underground. Never to miss an opportunity I wanted to see what the new Elizabeth line is like. It was only partly open. The full line from Reading all the way to the City opens in November. Anyhow then I thought - why not take it to Whitechapel where I had trained at the London Hospital. There is a vast new hospital built there now called the Royal London Hospital. The old hospital buildings are being turned into flats.

We used to drink beer at the Good Samaritan pub around the back of the old hospital. For old times sake a drank half a pint of bitter at the Sammy.

This is the new Whitchapel station built for the Elizabeth line.
