TOSCA at the Metropolitan Opera theatre in New York City

I have enjoyed going to Opera from time to time including “Live at the Met” in cinemas in Victoria, BC. I am lucky to be staying at the YMCA which is five minutes walk from the Met opera house. Particularly so because it had been raining hard (remnants of Hurricane Ian). It just so happened that TOSCA was having its first performance of the season. The story is well known to anyone who has been to even the occasional opera. It was first performed in Rome in 1900. A year later it was first performed in New York at the Met. Maria Callas performed six times - two each in 1956,1958 and 1965. Luciano Pavarotti sang the role of Cavaradossi 60 times - the last being on March 13, 2004. In this performance Michael Fabiano sang Cavaradossi. He has a brilliant voice that projects very well even to the fourth balcony where I was sitting. Alesksandra Kurzak was a strong soprano and played the dramatic role well.

I was surprised how modern the interior of the opera house was - most lights hidden, each seat has its own text screen in what ever language you choose. Very plush surroundings. Here are a few pics.
